Diabetes Health
Diabetes is a serious, long-term condition that affects how the body regulates blood sugar (glucose). When left unmanaged or undiagnosed, it can lead to severe, life-threatening complications and remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Early detection, accurate diagnosis, and ongoing monitoring are crucial for preventing or delaying complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, nerve damage (neuropathy), and vision loss.
At Fortress Clinical Laboratory, we provide comprehensive and precise testing designed to assess your risk, support early diagnosis, and guide the effective management of diabetes. Our services include specialist testing for insulin resistance, as well as a unique diagnostic test to differentiate between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This differentiation test is highly sensitive and requires strict handling: the sample must be processed immediately at your doctor’s clinic and frozen within four hours before being sent to our laboratory. This ensures the highest level of accuracy and reliability in your results.
Our Diabetes Health blood test gives a precise measurement of your current blood glucose levels at the time of your appointment. For the most reliable results, a fasting sample is recommended. In addition to assessing immediate glucose levels, we also measure long-term glucose control using the Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1c) test, which reflects your average blood sugar over the past two to three months. This combined approach provides both a real-time and long-term view of your blood sugar management, enabling your doctor to make informed decisions about your care.
The Diabetes Health Profile Includes:
- C-peptide – helps determine how much insulin your pancreas is producing, assisting in diabetes differentiation.
- Glucose – measures your current blood sugar level for immediate assessment.
- Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1c) – provides an overview of average blood sugar control over recent months.
- Insulin – evaluates insulin production and can help identify insulin resistance or impaired glucose regulation.
By taking a proactive approach to diabetes health, you and your healthcare provider can implement strategies to prevent or slow disease progression. These strategies may include personalised lifestyle adjustments, diet optimisation, medication management, or targeted monitoring.
At Fortress Clinical Laboratory, we are committed to delivering reliable, timely, and clinically precise diagnostic services. Our expertise helps you take control of your diabetes management with confidence, empowering better health outcomes and long-term well-being.
